Choosing from the menu at Sickies Garage might seem like a daunting task.

Fifty burgers, just as many brews, alcoholic shakes, mac and cheese, chicken strips, salads — there’s “something for everyone,” as director of training Jessica Quinones says.

The Fargo, North Dakota, chain opened its newest restaurant in Overland Park Monday, and Quinones said the restaurant saw a decent crowd despite launching on Memorial Day.

“Just a cool garage feel. All American,” Quinones said. “Can’t go wrong with burgers, beers and shakes.”

The upside-down, yellow pick-up truck leaning against the restaurant at 7111 W. 95th St. is hard to miss.

Inside, even more car-themed decor: old road signs, car parts and license plates. One room on the side of the restaurant is sectioned off by open garage-bay doors. In another, motorcycles hang from the ceiling.

The space was once home to Red Robin, which closed three years ago after 15 years.

It’s been a lengthy process converting the 8,000-plus-square-foot building into a Sickies, but Quinones hopes it’ll pay off. Sickies announced it would open its first Kansas City-area spot more than a year ago.

The chain’s Wichita location, which opened in April, is “by far” the busiest spot.

“We have the same expectations for here,” Quinones said.

The restaurant’s burger options include its half-pound Kobe burgers ($19.99), like its black and bleu burger (topped with melted blue cheese, bourbon glazed bacon and spicy mayo on a bricho bun).

Sickies’ “supercharged” burgers are piled high with toppings. For $13.99, the macaroni and cheese burger is a favorite, filled with cheesy pasta and bacon bits.

The jelly doughnut burger is served between two glazed doughnuts (Yes, you read that right. Doughnuts.) and your choice of strawberry, grape or raspberry jelly ($14.99).

On tap, dozens of beers, including local selections from Kansas City Bier Co. and Boulevard.

A variety of cocktails and mocktails are also available. Its shakes, which include s’more, shamrock, peanut butter and cinnamon toast, can be made with or without alcohol.

And, though it’s a burger place, Quinones doesn’t want anyone to sleep on its wings.

“I’ll put our wings up against anybody’s,” she said.

Wing sauces include barbecue, teriyaki, sweet chili, hot honey and mango habanero.

Sickies got its start in 2012 and has since added locations in Florida, Nebraska, Nevada and South Dakota. The Overland Park spot is Sickies’ 14th.

A “sickie” is someone who takes a day off to hang out in the garage and tinker with projects, according to Sickies’ website.

If you’re wanting to play hooky from work at Sickies Garage, its hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays, and 10 a.m. to midnight Saturdays.
