This KC River Market restaurant closed last year. Here’s what’s replacing it on Friday
Muni, a neighborhood bar and restaurant from the family behind Waldo Thai and Buck Tui BBQ, will open Friday in the River Market.
The address is 316 Delaware St., formerly home to Tribe Street Kitchen, which closed in December. Owner Ted Liberda characterized the food as “nontraditional Mexican and Thai.”
“It’s the newest evolution of our brand,” said Liberda, who owns the restaurants with his wife, Pam. “Our restaurants are Latino-driven kitchens — people who in some cases have been working for us for 15 years or more. What we’re serving here kind of grew out of the family meals we eat before the shift.”
Dishes include a Thai-style pozole, a carne asada kow soi (Northern Thai-style coconut curry with carne asada, crispy egg noodles, cilantro, scallions and pickled shallots) and the Smash Dat Muni smashburger (two patties, chile jam, caramelized onions, American and provolone cheese and spicy mayo). Prices range from $12 to $22.
Eric Schmidt, previously of Dodson’s Bar and Commons in Waldo, is a partner on the venture and will serve as beverage director for the cocktail menu.
They’re planning to serve late. The bar will be open until 1:30 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with the kitchen firing till midnight all six of those days.
