A jar dessert shop, Jars by Fabio Viviani, is opening its first Kansas City area location in Overland Park this summer.

The new shop will replace former “shaved” ice cream shop Bing Box at 4937 W. 119th St., in Hawthorne Plaza, according to Lane4 Property Group.

Started by Viviani — a two-time “Top Chef” contestant — Jars opened its first location in Chicago in early 2023. It sells red velvet, tiramisu, banana cream pie and other classic desserts in single-serve jars.

Other offerings include its very very blueberry cheesecake (whipped vanilla cream cheese custard, blueberries and graham crackers) and Oreo cookies and cream (pie crust, cookies and cream custard, crushed Oreo cookies and vanilla frosting).

Jars has locations in Chicago, Fort Worth and Los Angeles, with several on the way to St. Louis.

Fabio Viviani Hospitality, the parent company of JARS, is planning an aggressive expansion plan to bring more jars across the country.

The company aims to open more than 500 locations, 200 of which will be in development by the end of 2024, according to QSR Magazine. Viviani is involved with other Chicago-area restaurants, including Bar Siena and BomboBar.
