Chicken chain plans to open 6 more Kansas City area locations, 14 more in KS and MO
Arkansas-based Slim Chickens is looking to open six more restaurants in the Kansas City area.
The next location would open as soon as next year, with two or so opening each year after, said Jeff McCoy of franchise group AP Restaurant Group.
AP owns the metro’s five locations (six with Lawrence’s 701 Wakarusa Drive spot), including ones in Overland Park at 9001 W. 135th St. and Lenexa at 8700 Long St.
The group has a deal to open 14 more locations total across Missouri and Kansas.
“We plan on investing in the restaurants we have and growing that market in the next five to seven … 10 years,” McCoy said.
McCoy said AP has been scouting a few locations, but he can’t announce any addresses yet.
Slim Chickens first opened in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 2003. The restaurant sells Southern comfort food: chicken and waffles, fried okra, coleslaw, potato salad and other offerings.
The fast-food chain has grown by 60% in the last two years, according to the company, and it has 250 locations across the United States and United Kingdom.
Its first Kansas City spot opened in Independence in 2015 at 4641 S. Cochise Court.
