Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar — a restaurant near Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza — is permanently closed.

The upscale seafood spot at 4814 Roanoke Parkway was run by Big Red F Restaurant Group, which has several Jax locations in Colorado.

Jax served caviar, Alaskan king crab, lobster rolls and other menu favorites before it shuttered on New Year’s Eve.

Dave Query, owner of Jax and Big Red F, said he wants to focus on his other restaurants in Colorado.

“To all of our incredible staff we have had in the family for the last ten years, we are so appreciative and honored for all of your hard work and friendship,” Query said in a press release.

Query opened his KC location in 2014. It was his first venture outside Colorado.

“With our lease running out we are focusing on our family of restaurants in our home state of Colorado and have plans for additional restaurants to open there in 2024 and 2025,” he said.

Jax is Big Red F’s only Kansas City area restaurant. At one point, Query considered bringing another concept, The Post Chicken & Beer, to the area, but never did. Jax served Post chicken for takeout while it was shut down during the pandemic.

In her 2015 restaurant review, then-Star food writer Jill Silva gave Jax three out of four stars, recommending the Maine lobster roll, “a decadent take on the standard tuna fish sandwich.”
