Board game cafe selling lattes, waffle pops, opening soon in Johnson County food hall
Cardboard Corner Cafe — a board game cafe serving lattes and waffles — is opening a stall in the Lenexa Public Market early next year.
This will be Cardboard Corner’s second concept. The cafe’s brick and mortar in Overland Park at 9240 Metcalf Ave. opened in 2021.
Cardboard Corner is taking over a stall formerly occupied by Red Kitchen, a Mexican restaurant that will open in downtown Overland Park at 7926 Santa Fe Drive next year.
In addition to waffles, the cafe inside the Lenexa food hall at 8750 Penrose Lane will sell specialty coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches, build-your-own boba and cocktails.
Cardboard Corner’s sister company, Tabletop Game & Hobby, will have a small retail presence at the stall, selling board games and cards.
“We believe that expanding into the Public Market is a wonderful opportunity for gamers to mix and mingle with non-gamers, to celebrate culture and community that makes the Market special,” Cardboard Corner owner Madeline Davis is quoted in a press release from the city. “To sit down as strangers, roll some dice, play a few hands of cards, and to leave as friends.”
