Whole Foods is about to open an even bigger Johnson County grocery store. Here’s when
It’s the culmination of years of planning and construction. The new Overland Park Whole Foods Market now has an opening date it’s aiming for, Nov. 15, said Dave Claflin, vice president of development for Legacy Development.
The health food store, with more than 500 spots across the country (including another at 301 E. 51st St.), already had a home at 6621 W. 119th St.
But developers announced in 2021 that it would move out of its nearly 30,000-square foot digs to get more room a few blocks away, roughly 45,000-square feet, at 11900 Metcalf Ave.
Whole Foods stores are typically 25,000 to 50,000 square feet, according to the company’s website. They offer an array of options that are organic or cater to dietary restrictions, as well as prepared foods, supplements and bakery items.
The new Whole Foods is part of the Overland Crossing development, which also includes Five Below, Golf Galaxy and Burlington. Last week, shoppers poured into the development’s new Nordstrom Rack store.
Whole Foods’ old location will become a PGA Tour Superstore, owners of the Fountains shopping center announced earlier this year.
The PGA store will sell golf gear and other sports apparel and equipment. With dozens of stores nationwide, this will be the company’s first location in the Kansas City area.
Developers with the Fountains could not be reached Tuesday to give the PGA store’s opening date.
