This Tex-Mex restaurant has two locations in Johnson County. Get ready for a third
In 1993, Cactus Grill Tex-Mex & Tequila opened its first location in Leawood, creating a loyal base of margarita-sipping, salsa-dipping customers.
Cactus opened another spot in 2020, tucked in Overland Park’s Bluhawk development at 7841 W. 159th St.
Now, customers can look forward to a third location — this one in Lenexa City Center, at 87th Street and Renner Boulevard.
The new location will be part of the “Restaurant Row” project from developer Copaken Brooks. The company announced the project’s groundbreaking in late July, saying the first phase of construction would include multiple restaurants (Cactus being one of them), with more spaces for lease.
Jody Sight, a spokeswoman for Cactus, said the restaurant’s newest location will be open in late spring.
Cactus serves house chimichangas, chicken tamales and signature margaritas. Its Sunday brunch menu, served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., includes jalapeno biscuits and gravy and a churro waffle.
Sight said staff members are looking forward to providing the neighborhood with an “elevated” yet casual dining experience.
“We can’t wait to serve our top-shelf Tex-Mex and our freshly squeezed, hand-crafted margaritas in Lenexa,” she said.
Cactus is owned by Jose Pepper’s: a Mexican restaurant chain with nine restaurants in the Kansas City area, one in Topeka and another in Wichita.
