Korean restaurant serving rice bowls, noodles opening in Johnson County shopping area
Kimchi and Bap, a Korean restaurant that began as a pop-up concept, is opening a stall in the Lenexa Public Market on Thursday.
The restaurant serves rice bowls with beef or chicken bulgogi, a popular Korean barbecue dish, as well as tofu ($12). A side of rice or house-made kimchi ($2.51) is also available.
Owner Lisa Hamblen, who was adopted from South Korea when she was 2, grew up around the kitchen, cooking with her mother often.
This past year, Hamblen has been offering her sweet potato noodles and bibimbap (vegetables covered in gochujang sauce) at the market on and off.
The response from customers encouraged her to make Lenexa Public Market Kimchi and Bap’s permanent home. Her stall will be between African Dream Cuisine and Sohaila’s Kitchen.
After the soft opening, Hamblen will celebrate the restaurant’s grand opening Aug. 11 with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Lenexa Public Market food hall is at 8750 Penrose Lane in the Lenexa City Center, west of Interstate 435.
Kimchi and Bap will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and Mondays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
