Another Kansas City area Whataburger to break ground soon. Here’s when more will open

Whataburger will open a new Cass County location with its latest prototype design.

The restaurant, at 1705 N. Missouri 291 in Harrisonville, is scheduled to break ground by September, said Josh Bishop, broker for the site. He said Whataburger will construct the building for the corporate-owned location and lease the land.

Christina Stanton, director of community development for Harrisonville, said, “They had to demo an old, old hotel on the site. They have submitted a site plan.”

On Thursday, a Whataburger spokeswoman confirmed the location, saying it would open in 2024. No other details were available, but other corporate-owned Whataburgers have opened with double drive-thru service.

The Texas-based Whataburger is known for its made-to-order burgers. It also has breakfast items, fries with dipping sauces including jalapeno ranch and honey barbecue, onion rings, salads, shakes and desserts.

It has corporate-owned area restaurants in Blue Springs, Independence, Lee’s Summit, Overland Park and Raymore.

KMO Burger, with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as a partner, also has several area locations.

Area locations scheduled to open this year:

▪ Highway 152 and North Booth Avenue. August.

▪ 9100 block of Missouri 45, Parkville. November.

▪ 14123 W. 135th St., Olathe. Late 2023.

Openings in 2024:

▪ 4200 Sterling Ave. Early 2024.

▪ 5630 Bannister Road. 2024.

▪ Lawrence, location TBA.
