Shirts didn’t fit their athletic build. So they created a shop, opening on KC’s Plaza

State & Liberty
State & Liberty offers a variety of menswear including dress shirts and pants, suits, linen blazers, winter coats, T-shirts, jackets, hoodies,  tuxedos, belts and socks.

Michigan retailer State & Liberty has opened on the Country Club Plaza.

Before Steven Fisher and Lee Moffie founded the company in 2015, they could not find a dress shirt to fit their athletic build. “Slim Fit” dress shirts were too tight, “Standard Fit” shirts too boxy around the waist. They spent years researching athletic body types before creating their “Athletic Fit” dress shirt.

Their shops now offer dress shirts and pants, suits, linen blazers, winter coats, button-downs, crew necks, T-shirts, jackets, hoodies, tuxedos, belts, socks, cuff links and more.

They have 21 stores in 13 states and Toronto. The founders met in Ann Arbor and named their company after a popular downtown intersection there — State and Liberty.

The new Kansas City store is in the former Kate Spade space at 321 Nichols Road.
