The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City reviewed 16 proposals for a total of $1.1 million before awarding $396,000 to eight area nonprofit organizations in its October round of grants.

The foundation’s monthly grants support organizations that submit specific funding requests for health-related programs for underserved communities.

October recipients were: the Black Health Care Coalition; Calvary Community Outreach Network; CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties; Cristo Rey Kansas City; KC Healthy Kids; Child Care Aware of Kansas; Poetry for Personal Power; and Rosedale Development Association.

The monthly grants are capped at $75,000 each, and organizations can apply only once a year. In 2016, the foundation will award about $4 million in monthly grants.
