Hot Kansas City companies are honored by Economic Development Corp.

Multifaceted development and redevelopment tied to the Martin City Community Improvement District along 135th Street won the “people’s choice” honor Wednesday at the annual Cornerstone Awards program sponsored by the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City.

The Martin City efforts were chosen from among 10 previously announced Cornerstone winners.

Also announced Wednesday night at the Union Station event was a special lifetime achievement award to Ollie Gates, founder of Gates Bar-B-Q and a longtime community advocate.

Entities recognized for innovation were LaunchCode, LaunchKC, Smart City Advisory Board, TechWeek and ThinkBig Partners.

Honored for their “made in KC” products were Baldwin Denim & Collection, Charlie Hustle Clothing Co., J. Rieger & Co. and Niall Luxury.
