200 distribution center jobs announced for Olathe

S&S Activewear, a wholesaler of promotional apparel, plans to open a distribution center and create 200 jobs in the I-35 Logistics Park in Olathe.

Company officials in Bolingbrook, Ill., said in a news release that the Olathe site will improve shipping capabilities for S&S. Marketing director Margaret Crow said the facility will expand the company’s overnight delivery area, primarily serving customers in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, northern Texas and part of Colorado.

The company is leasing 473,000 square feet in a shipping and receiving facility in the industrial park developed by Kessinger/Hunter & Co. Dan Jensen with Kessinger/Hunter negotiated the lease.

Mayor Mike Copeland of Olathe said the announcement “adds to what has been our best year ever in terms of economic development.”

The Kansas City Area Development Council said it worked to attract S&S Activewear to the metro area along with the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas Department of Commerce, Johnson County Community College, IMKO Workforce Solutions, QPS Employment Group, Kansas Workforce Partnership, KCP&L and KC SmartPort.

S&S Activewear was founded in 1988. Its deals with more than 60 apparel brands and products that include T-shirts, fleece, sport shirts, wovens, hats, bags, aprons, performance apparel and uniforms. Olathe will be its fourth distribution location after Bolingbrook, Santa Fe Springs, Calif., and Robbinsville, N.J.
