South Kansas City industrial park lands new tenant
Commonwealth Inc., a logistics company that provides public and contract warehousing, will take 101,567 square feet in a speculatively built facility in Three Trails Industrial Park.
The new operation, a $3.5 million investment, is expected to open in February. CEO Brent Collins, based in Cincinnati, said the warehouse will provide seven to 10 jobs at the outset with plans for expansion into more space, eventually hiring up to 20.
Collins said growth in the area’s logistics industry played a role in choosing the south Kansas City location at U.S. 71 and 87th Street in the industrial park developed by NorthPoint Development. The Commonwealth lease was negotiated by Whitney Kerr Jr. with Cushman & Wakefield.
Commonwealth is taking part of a large warehouse building that has been widely speculated as a potential warehouse site for Boulevard Brewing Co. Boulevard officials had no comment about the brewery’s plans.
Authorities said the Kansas City Area Development Council, the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City, the city of Kansas City, Jackson County, the state of Missouri, NorthPoint Development, Kansas City Power & Light and KC SmartPort assisted in attracting Commonwealth to the area.
Commonwealth is a family-owned company that provides warehousing services across the business landscape, with major clients such as Procter & Gamble, Pepsi, Beech-Nut Foods, Kroger, Starbucks and Pfizer.
