Area homebuilding activity declined slightly in August
Homebuilding activity in the Kansas City area cooled slightly in August, the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City said Tuesday.
The association said 347 building permits were issued for single-family homes last month in the eight-county area. That was down from 358 in July and 354 in August 2013.
Through the first eight months of 2014, 2,749 permits have been issued for single-family homes, up 1.5 percent from the same period in 2013.
The number of single-family permits is divided nearly equally between Kansas and Missouri counties in the metropolitan area, the association said.
“Builders’ confidence is still good and production is trending upward, so 2014 will be a positive year for single-family builders,” Sara Corless, the association’s executive vice president, said in a statement.
The hottest part of the residential market continues to be multifamily building. According to the association, permits have been issued for 2,271 units through the first eight months this year, compared with 1,881 units for the same period in 2013.
