Which Kansas restaurants made the list of 35 local favorites?
The Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association did an online survey asking Kansans a question: “What is your favorite Kansas-based restaurant that isn’t a chain?”
About 500 people responded and the association released the results in “Top 35 Non-Chain Restaurants in Kansas.”
The top pick was Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que with locations in Kansas City, Kan., Leawood and Olathe.
Lawrence’s Free State Brewing Co. took second place, followed by The Burger Stand, also on Massachusetts Street in Lawrence as well as in Topeka.
Lawrence also had the most restaurants on the list with 10. Wichita and Kansas City tied with six each.
American food was represented in 18 restaurants on the list, followed by Mexican cuisine and Italian.
Other area restaurants making the list include El Potro Mexican Cafe, Jalisco Restaurants, La Bodega Tapas & Lounge, Limestone Pizza Kitchen Bar, Nick & Jake’s, Panzon’s, and Mi Ranchito Cocina & Cantina Mexicana.
