Estilo Rancho Grill is taking the former Cascone’s Grill North space in the Picture Hills Shopping Center at 6427 N. Cosby Ave.

The restaurant will serve Mexican cuisine, breakfast all day, and have a full bar. It hopes to open in early June. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Cascone’s Grill North opened two years ago but owner Frank Cascone said he had trouble finding dependable help. He closed the restaurant in late March.

“I was killing myself in the kitchen — no cooks, no dishwashers, the bus people were all kids. And on Saturday and Sundays the staff sometimes wouldn’t show up for work,” Cascone said.

▪ Local owners are in negotiations to open Southside Eatery + Bar in the Watts Mill Plaza. If the negotiations are successful, they would open the restaurant in the former Guadalajara Cafe space, at 1144 W. 103rd St., in the fall.

Southside would offer comfort food using fresh, local produce, including daily specials like chicken pot pies.

▪ A sign on the interior door of Kobe Japanese Steak & Seafood in the Power & Light District says the restaurant is “short of staff” so it can only serve a limited amount of customers.

“Sorry for the inconvenience.”

But mail is piled up in the foyer of the restaurant at 1303 Baltimore Ave. The phone number has been disconnected and the restaurant isn’t listed on the Power & Light website.

Officials with Power & Light couldn’t be reached for comment.
