At Home - The Home Decor Superstore is coming to Olathe
At Home, a big box home furnishings retail chain, will open in the former Olathe Kmart.
The Plano, Texas-based company is scheduling a spring opening in the 105,000-square-foot building at 2000 E. Santa Fe. It will have about 20 full- and part-time employees.
At Home stores carry more than 50,000 home decor products. Items include sofas, dining room tables and chairs, lamps, rugs, housewares like drinkware and dinnerware, wall decor and decorative accents, home-furnishings, patio furniture, gardening supplies and decorations, shelving and racks, and seasonal decor including artificial trees.
At Home said it sets its stores apart by the breadth and depth of products, including 600 different styles and sizes of rugs, all at “everyday low prices.”
The company also is opening a store in Lee’s Summit in late spring.
At Home Group Inc. formerly operated under the name Garden Ridge, which was founded in 1979. In 2014, it spent $20 million rebranding and redecorating its 81 stores in 21 states to the new At Home brand.
Garden Ridge has previously opened a store in Independence in 1999 but the company closed after a bankruptcy reorganization in 2004.
Spin expanding in Kansas
Kansas City’s Spin Neapolitan Pizza has a new franchisee who wants to open more Kansas restaurants.
Top Spin LLC partners — Brent Boles, Butch Eaton, Jim Klausman and Greg Schwerdt — plan to open the pizzerias in Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan and Wichita over the next five years. The first is scheduled to open this year, but the partners have not announced the city.
The Top Spin LLC partners are Kansas natives who have extensive business interests in all of those markets, including restaurants.
Spin’s pizza dough is made fresh daily using several types of flour. It roasts most of its toppings in olive oil and herbs in its stone hearth ovens, including mushrooms, caramelized onions, artichokes, capers, pecans, pineapple, pine nuts and pancetta.
Menu items include its specialty pizzas, small plates, panini, flatbreads and spreads, soups, salads, sandwiches and gelato, all produced fresh daily. It also offers a gluten free crust and toppings, plus dairy-free cheese. Spin’s recipes are developed in collaboration with James Beard award-winning chef Michael Smith.
It also serves a rotating roster of premium wines, as well as house-made white, red and blood orange sangrias and a selection of craft beers.
Spin’s unique service model also combines the convenience of ordering in the restaurant’s lobby with full-service experience at the table.
Spin Neapolitan Pizza was founded in 2005 and now has six area locations — Lee’s Summit, Lenexa, Olathe, Overland Park, Prairie Village and south of the Country Club Plaza.
Other restaurants are under construction, including a new Crown Center location and one in Overland Park’s Corbin Park, both scheduled to open in April.
Spin also now has a restaurant in Omaha, Neb. Other locations are set to open in Warrensburg, Mo., and Dallas, as well as in North Dakota and South Dakota. Franchisees also are expanding in California.
