The metro area’s first Zaxby’s has softly opened in Kansas City, Kan.
Two franchisees plan multiple locations in the metro area. One of the operators, Organized Chickenz, opened the first area location at 2035 N. 109th St., across from the Legends Outlets. It opened earlier this month and will have a grand opening in May.
Zaxby’s, based in Athens, Ga., offers prepared-at-order chicken fingers, wings and sandwiches, along with sides like coleslaw, chicken salad, side salad, a basket of celery, crinkle fries and Texas toast. Appetizers include Tater Chips, spicy fried mushrooms and fried white cheddar bites. Customers also can select from several sauces.

This reporter tried the Traditional Wings & Things (chicken fingers, traditional wings, crinkle fries, Texas toast, Zax Sauce and ranch sauce) for $7.99, with both the Wimpy sauce and the Insane sauce — even though the employees asked me twice if I was sure I wanted to try the Insane sauce.
Although I was sure, Insane might be too much for many. But first-timers should be a little more adventurous than Wimpy.
Legends Outlets updates
▪ A decade after opening in the Legends Outlets Kansas City, Brooks Brothers Factory Store will relocate and downsize to a 5,182-square-foot space next door at 1847 Village West Parkway, Suite K-109, in part of the former Forever 21 space.
It will continue to operate at its current location at 1847 Village West Parkway, Suite K-105, through May 11. A May 14 opening is planned in the new location.
It offers classic-style shirts, suits, sportswear and accessories at outlet prices. About 60 percent of the inventory is for men, and 40 percent is for women.
“In this store, we have an incredible amount of width. It’s like ballroom size, so if we were in one of the corners it seemed like a block to get to a customer coming in the door,” said supervisor Ray Cunningham. “The new space will be more intimate, and it will be much easier to help the customers and for the customers to ask questions.”
▪ Victoria’s Secret will take the 8,472-square-foot Brooks Brothers space. Construction is scheduled to start in June for a mid-September opening.
Victoria’s Secret will offer luxury lingerie, pajamas, loungewear, beauty products and more. It will be a full-price store, not an outlet.
▪ Francesca’s had previously announced plans to take a 1,960-square-foot space at 1847 Village West Parkway, Suite K-111, in part of the former Forever 21 space. It is scheduled to open in late May.
Legends Outlets said it is in final negotiations for the remaining 7,000 square feet of the former Forever 21 space.
Forever 21 opened a 16,045-square-foot F21 Red store in the Legends in late 2015 and then closed its 15,000-square-foot Forever 21 store.
