Kansas City, Kansas restaurant health inspections, temporary shutdowns, for March 21

Here are area restaurants and grocery stores with 7 or more priority or critical health code violations, with highlighted links to the original public record reports by city or county health inspectors.

Restaurants correct most violations at the time of the original inspection or shortly thereafter. Links to the follow-up inspections show how each establishment has corrected or is working to correct any remaining violations.

If an inspection or follow-up report needs clarification, restaurant and grocery store owners can call Joyce Smith at 816-234-4692 or email her at jsmith@kcstar.com. The Star will post appropriate responses online in the same online locations as the original report.

In addition, if a restaurant is temporarily shut down, a comment from the owner will be requested and a more complete description will be included with the online report.

The owner couldn’t be reached for comment.

▪ Joe’s Downtown Donuts, 641 Grand, had 3 critical violations during a Feb. 17 routine inspection and was temporarily shut down for not having its plumbing system maintained.

It was reinspected later that day and had no critical violations so it was allowed to reopen.

“We take this extremely seriously because the health of our customers is top priority,” King said.

The franchisee declined to comment.

“I tried to get rid of what was there but somehow the pest control company didn’t do a good job,” said Myong Kim, owner. “I got rid of the previous pest control company.”

▪ Stroud’s, 4200 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Fairway, had 9 priority violations during a Jan. 27 follow-up inspection and was temporarily closed because it was operating without hot water.

It had no critical violations during a reopening inspection on Jan. 28, the most recent inspection report available.
