Westport openings: Insomnia Cookies, Pickleman’s, Johnny Kaw’s & Qdoba
Some updates about Westport businesses:
▪ The metro’s first Insomnia Cookies shop has opened at 505 Westport Road.
Insomnia Cookies was founded in a college dorm room at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003 and now has 81 locations.
Menu items include freshly baked cookies like double chocolate mint, white chocolate macadamia nut, sugar, snickerdoodles and peanut butter chip for $1.45 each. It has three deluxe cookies — triple chocolate chunk, s’mores and chocolate peanut butter cup — for $2.95 each. It also offers ice cream, brownie and cookie a la modes, as well ice cream sandwiches, cookie cakes, toppings and mix-ins, and milk.
The menu also includes calorie counts: 180-280 calories for a traditional cookie, up to 1,200-1,460 calories for a deluxe Cookiewich ice cream sandwich.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily for pickup, and noon to 3 a.m. daily for delivery in a 3-mile radius of the shop. Average delivery time is 20 minutes.
Some perks of working at Insomnia Cookies: Employees get a free cookie every shift and 50 percent off their orders.
▪ Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe plans to open later this week at 509 Westport Road, next to Insomnia Cookies. It will offer sandwiches, pizzas, soups and salads.
▪ Qdoba Mexican Eats plans a late March or early April opening at 515 Westport Road. It recently returned to the market, opening locations in Mission and the Northland.
The fast-casual operation was founded in Denver in 1995 and specializes in customizable Mexican entrees, including burritos, tacos, nachos, Mexican gumbo, quesadillas and taco salad.
All three locations are on the site of a former parking lot.
▪ Brett Allred plans to open a Johnny Kaw’s Sports Bar at 504 Westport Road this summer.
Allred converted his Shot Stop operation — at 7439 Broadway in Waldo — to a Johnny Kaw’s in mid-2015. The graduate of Kansas State University also owns a Johnny Kaw’s in Manhattan, Kan., that spans eight buildings and holds more than 1,000 people. The Westport location will have a full bar but doesn’t have a kitchen, so it will not offer food.
