Restaurant & grocery store inspections for Nov. 18
The Kansas Department of Agriculture cited these operations for 7 or more priority health code violations. Most violations are corrected at the time of the inspection.
▪ Balls Price Chopper, 7600 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan., had 11 priority violations during an Oct. 28 routine inspection, including head cheese with discard dates of Oct. 9, Oct. 11, Oct. 16, and Oct. 21, and turkey with a discard date of Oct. 11 (all over the 7-day limit so items discarded).
Balls officials did not return phone calls.
▪ Jalapeno’s Taqueria, 3139 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan., had 10 priority violations during an Oct. 27 routine inspection, including cooked chicken, cooked chicken flautas, chicken stock, and cooked corn on the cob with preparation dates of Oct. 14, and cooked pork with a preparation date of Oct. 15 (beyond the 7-day limit so food discarded).
“So far, so good. We’ve already fixed those problems and we have been reinspected and we are clear now,” said Robert Medina, manager.
Jalapeno’s had 1 priority violation during a Nov. 6 follow-up inspection.
▪ Conoco, 2701 Fairfax Trafficway, Kansas City, Kan., had 9 priority violations during an Oct. 21 routine inspection, including burritos held at improper temperatures (burritos were reheated and the hot holding unit was turned on).
“Everything has been corrected,” said Binay Sharma, general manager.
Conoco had 1 priority violation during a Nov. 7 follow-up inspection.
▪ Stix, Legends Outlets Kansas City, 1847 Village West Parkway, Suite K-101, Kansas City, Kan., had 8 priority violations during an Oct. 16 inspection following a complaint, including an open container of raw shrimp stored above raw chicken on the make-table.
Stix had 2 critical violations during an Oct. 27 follow-up inspection.
“We already corrected everything,” said Joyce Wong, manager.

The Kansas City Health Department cited these operations for 7 or more critical health code violations.
▪ Hereford House, Zona Rosa, 8661 N. Stoddard Ave., had 15 critical violations during an Oct. 20 routine inspection, including cooked ribs in walk-in cooler with a date-mark of Oct. 11 (Employee smelled the food and stated that it still smelled like it was good. The inspector informed the employee that it was beyond the 7-day limit so ribs were discarded).
Hereford House had no critical violations during an Oct. 29 follow-up inspection.
In a statement, Camellia Anderson, spokeswoman for the company, said: “The results of the inspection, which we take seriously, were an anomaly. Our most recent inspection indicated zero violations.”
▪ Cajun Fried Chicken, 3700 E. Gregory Blvd., had 12 critical violations during an Oct. 23 routine inspection, including burrito, sliced tomatoes, and sliced cheese held at improper temperatures (food discarded).
An owner declined to comment.
Cajun Fried Chicken had no critical violations during an Oct. 30 follow-up inspection.
▪ Save’s Deli, Save-A-Lot, 6859 Longview Road, had 10 critical violations during an Oct. 20 routine inspection, including cakes made in a home bakery that did not have a valid food permit.
“We are working on correcting every single one of the violations,” said Luann Vasut, assistant manager.
Save’s Deli had no critical violations during an Oct. 24 follow-up inspection, 2 critical violations during a Nov. 3 follow-up inspection and no critical violations during a Nov. 10 follow-up inspection.
▪ Lucky Dynasty, 1214 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd., had 8 critical violations during an Oct. 23 inspection following a complaint, including only 2 out of 4 employees with food handler cards.
The owner, through an interpreter, declined to comment.
Lucky Dynasty had no critical violations during an Oct. 30 follow-up inspection.
▪ Jam Down Kitchen, 6836 Prospect Ave., had 7 critical violations during an Oct. 21 routine inspection, including cabbage and curry chicken held at improper temperatures (food discarded).
Jam Down Kitchen had no critical violations during an Oct. 29 follow-up inspection.
Restaurant officials declined to comment.
