Streetwear shop expands in Westport, Plaza Liquor opening in former Belleview Berbiglia

The three friends behind The Loop KC said they are “moving on up.”

Trenton Warner, Ray Pierce Jr., and Jarvis Jones first opened the streetwear, graffiti art supply and sneaker boutique a year ago at 3905 Broadway.

Now they’ve moved to a larger space at 3955 Broadway with more foot traffic. The store offers apparel like T-shirts, hats and athletic shoes, along with vintage apparel featuring college and professional teams like the Kansas City Chiefs. The store also buys and sells gently used collector sneakers.

“We are part of a hip hop label, too, called Indyground Entertainment, so we travel a lot. Kansas City really didn’t have anything like the streetwear stores we have seen in other cities — New York, Chicago,” Warner said.

Kultured Chameleon Street Art Gallery also has a store-within-a-store selling graffiti supplies.

The three friends want to showcase area graffiti artists. They hold live street art events on First Fridays at 17th and Locust streets. They also plan to do graffiti art events at the new Westport location.

Plaza Liquor

The building housing a former Berbiglia Wine & Spirits store at 4500 Belleview Ave. is getting a major makeover.

Then it will reopen in October as Plaza Liquor. Plaza Liquor will offer more premium selections, as well as a chilled wine section, craft beers, gift bags, and local food products like cheese and salsa, for “one stop shopping,” the new owner said.

The longtime Kansas City Berbiglia chain downsized to one location earlier this year. The family-owned business, which dates to 1934, closed six stores and consolidated at its remaining store at 1114 W. 103rd St. in south Kansas City. The Belleview Berbiglia first shows up in the city directory in 1977.

Mike's Wine and Spirits, with locations in Waldo and Westport, also took Berbiglia’s former Brookside space.
