Casey’s Steakburgers opens in Oak Park Mall’s food court and other updates
In Oak Park Mall updates:
▪ Casey’s Steakburgers has opened in a space that formerly housed New York Dawg Pound and Ingredient in the food court of the mall, at 95th street and Quivira Road. Casey’s offers steakburgers, pulled pork, pulled chicken, beef brisket, hot dogs, corn dogs, onion straws, zucchini sticks, bacon mac-and-cheese, churros, shakes, malts, sundaes, concrete mixers and more.
A partner in Overland Park’s New York Dawg Pound also is a partner in Casey’s Steakburgers. The owners of Casey’s are looking at sites in Columbia and Springfield for expansion.
▪ Payless ShoeSource is opening a Payless superstore in the former space occupied by Deb, which closed due to nationwide bankruptcy. The new superstore will replace the current Payless ShoeSource location in mid-to-late October. At 6,800-square-feet, the superstore will offer a broader assortment and depth of footwear and accessories, and a bright, open layout with wider aisles, company officials said.
▪ James Avery closed in late July after about three years in the mall.
The Texas-based jewelry retailer sells mostly handcrafted jewelry, with designs in sterling silver, 14-karat gold and gemstones. Company officials said sales did not meet their expectations. However, the Oak Park Mall Dillard’s store is now carrying the line.
▪ The freestanding Outback Steakhouse, at 9501 Quivira Road, is open during its exterior renovation, which is expected to be completed in mid-October.
New Mr. Gyros
The locally owned Mr. Gyros Greek Food & Pastry plans to open its fourth area location by late November. It is taking a space in Camelot Court, at 11707 Roe Ave., Leawood. It also has a location in Olathe and two restaurants in Overland Park.
Reader questions
▪ What happened to the KFC on Antioch?
The restaurant, at 8669 W. 135th St, Overland Park, at Antioch Road, was recently purchased as part of a 25-unit transaction by KBP Foods, headquartered in Overland Park.
In a statement, Mike Kulp, chief executive officer of KBP Foods, said the location “was built in recent years and had a negative impact on surrounding KFC locations. Our strategic intent is to relocate that restaurant further south to recapture performance in current restaurants and serve the growing residential area moving further south in Johnson County. We are not prepared at this time to release the dates or exact areas we are considering for the relocation, but we are looking at various options.”
▪ When is K-Macho’s opening on 119th?
The owners of K-macho’s Mexican Restaurant and Cantina took over the former Famous Dave’s Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que building at 11741 Metcalf Ave. a year ago. One delay was caused when a custom order for wrought iron patio furniture was not constructed correctly, as well as some dining room furniture.
They now plan an early October opening.
The owners also have a K-macho’s location in Olathe, which opened two years ago.
