Poetry and more coming to new Crossroads venue, the Vibe

Tennessee transplant Davida Jones wanted the same kind of “spoken word” venues she enjoyed in her home state for her adopted Kansas City.

So she’s opening one.

The Vibe is taking a space at 404 E. 18th St., near Grinders, for a scheduled First Fridays opening on May 2. It will feature weekly poetry events as well as karaoke on Thursday nights and out-of-town comedians on a monthly basis. It also will serve wine, beer, cocktails and appetizers.

“Kansas City doesn’t have anything like that, something that focuses on the spoken word in a place where you can lounge and relax with wine or spirits,” Jones said. “It will be sophisticated and classy and cater to women 30 and older.”

Jones moved to Kansas City from Memphis in 2010 to work for Sprint. But she is now focusing on The Vibe.
