KC’s inspection agency cites excellence in food establishment safety
The Kansas City Health Department has recognized 269 food establishments with top grades for inspections in 2013.
The department recognized full-service restaurants, fast-food operations, school cafeterias, bakeries, convenience stores, grocery stores and others with its annual Grade A Food Excellence Awards. The award is valid for one year and is based on cumulative inspection reports throughout 2013.
The Health Department said excellence is most fully achieved when food service management fully endorses employee education and training. So the awards go to establishments that have exhibited excellence in sanitation and food safety, as well as employee education.
All food establishments in Kansas City are inspected regularly by the department, and if they are open, they have passed their inspections. Those receiving the excellence award, approximately eight percent of the city’s 3,400 permitted food establishments, substantially exceeded the standards of the food code.
