SmokeShack BBQ in North Kansas City closes ‘indefinitely’
North Kansas City’s barbecue showdown may be over.
Less than a year after opening at 900 Swift Ave., Kansas City SmokeShack BBQ has closed.
Glenn Yeager and his son Josh Yeager opened the barbeque in a gold brick building on the southern end of Swift, just a few blocks from the award-winning Smokin’ Guns BBQ & Catering, in April 2013.
Smokin’ Guns, which opened in North Kansas City in 2003, had just quadrupled in size.
Still, Glenn Yeager said there was room for another barbecue in North Kansas City. At the time, he offered this “barbecue smack” about his competitor: “They can continue to smoke guns and we’ll smoke meat.”
Now a sign is on the door of SmokeShack: “Good Folks. We are closed indefinitely. Thank you for a great 10 months! The reasons for closing had nothing to do with you — you were the BEST!”
Yeager declined to comment on the closing.
But Linda Hopkins, co-owner of Smokin’ Guns, said: “It’s everyone’s dream to have their own business. I’m sorry it didn’t work out for them.”
