The Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association will recognize a longtime area restaurateur and a longtime linen supply company at its annual awards dinner later this month.
The Restaurateur of the Year is Kevin Timmons, co-owner of Nick and Jake’s, which opened in Overland Park in 2001 and now also has locations in Parkville and south of the Country Club Plaza.
The Company of the Year is Excel Linen Supply of Kansas City, Kan., which was founded in 1931 and has been owned and operated by the Joseph F. Brancato family since 1974. It now serves more than 1,200 clients in a 100-mile radius of Kansas City.
Restaurant employers and peers also have nominated leaders in different categories of the Kansas City restaurant industry. The winners will be announced at the Sept. 30 event, as well as the eight scholarship winners who are pursuing careers in the hospitality industry. Celebrity chef and restaurateur Lidia Bastianich, owner of Lidia’s Kansas City, will be the keynote speaker.
The event will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Hospitality and Culinary Academy at Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd. in Overland Park.
The cost is $50 per ticket and $25 for student tickets. Tickets must be purchased by Sept. 23.
