Pet goods store coming to the Crossroads

A one-stop shop for pets is set to open in the Crossroads Arts District in the spring.

Tail Waggin’ PetStop is taking a nearly 3,000-square-foot corner space at 1818 Wyandotte St., across from Mildred’s Coffeehouse.

It will offer high-quality food for dogs and cats in a wide range of prices, along with toys, treats, beds and other pet supplies. It also will have a do-it-yourself pet grooming area with bathing tubs and grooming products, and it will offer a customer reward program.

Pet food tastings are planned, as well as seminars put on by pet care experts.

During the monthly First Friday events it may even show pet-themed movies on the side of the building.

The shop’s owners, Alan Zlotky and his wife Merrie Morris, have lived and worked in Washington, D.C., for many years. But they have ties to the Kansas City area. Zlotky grew up in Topeka. Morris grew up in St. Louis but her parents and her brother and his family now live here.

“As we get older we wanted to be with family,” Morris said.

They chose the Crossroads for their new shop because it is “such a vibrant and growing neighborhood and it’s very pet friendly,” Zlotky said.

Gaddis Architect, an Alexandria, Va.-based firm specializing in retail spaces, will design the new pet supply shop.

Tail Waggin’ PetStop is just about a block away from the new Dog Pawz, a doggy daycare, cage-less boarding and professional grooming facility which also offers some pet supplies.
