Area On the Border restaurants get a new look

On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina is rolling out a citywide remodel in Kansas City, the first citywide remodel in the company’s 31-year history.

The Dallas-based chain has 159 locations in 36 states, including six area operations. The restaurants have been open during the interior/exterior remodel and now have a cleaner, lighter look and more open layout. They also have unique wall decorations like a wall of guitars.

The Lee’s Summit and Independence restaurants showcased their new look this week, while the Lawrence location will do so on Nov. 20th, and the Northland restaurant plans an event on Nov. 21. Locations in Leawood and Overland Park will finish their remodel in early December.

On the Border entered the area market in the mid-1990s.

When it comes to upgrades and updates for the brand, chief financial officer Chris Morris said Kansas City is always going to be at the top of his list. Why? Because he grew up in Independence.
