Five years ago, Jose Garcia and his son, Jeremy Garcia, opened El Porton Cafe in Overland Park.

Now they are making repairs on a building at 240 E. Linwood Blvd. for a sister operation that will mostly be for to-go orders. Poco’s Mexican Cuisine had operated in the space.

El Porton Cafe Express is scheduled to open later this month. The South American-Caribbean restaurant will have a limited menu of items like corn cakes and Cuban sandwiches. It will have a few tables for dine-in customers.

Poco’s had recently relocated from Southwest Boulevard. The owner couldn’t be reached for comment and the landlord didn’t return phone calls.

Artego Pizza

A sign on the front of the building at 900 W. 39th St. says “Now open,” but a sign on the door of Artego Pizza says “Closed for kitchen repairs.”

Owner Joe Perez, who had played for the Kansas City Chiefs, couldn’t be reached for comment. He opened Artego Pizza in late 2014.

Kansas City muralist Alexander Austin did several large-scale works for the dining room.
