New Mediterranean restaurant popular in Johnson County. Here’s where more are opening

Wichita’s Meddys Mediterranean Eatery & Craft Bar recently opened a Johnson County restaurant.

Now more area locations are in the works.

After remodeling, it plans an August opening at 6301 Brookside Plaza. Panera Bread had operated in the space for a decade before closing in July.

It is in negotiations to open in the former Whopper Bar in the Power & Light District; to put up a new building at 115th Street and Nall Avenue in Overland Park; and to put up a new building in Sonoma Plaza at at 87th Street Parkway and Interstate 435 in Lenexa. It also is looking in the Northland, Lee’s Summit, Liberty and Olathe.

Founder Alex Harb, a native of Lebanon, opened the first Meddys in Wichita in 2014. There are now five locations in the city.

The menu is based on the meals Harb grew up on. It includes shawarma, bowls and platters, grilled citrus salmon (with tabbouleh, roasted veggies, tomato-onion relish and tzatziki), Spanish eggplant, baba ghanoush, falafel, and chicken with garlicky potatoes, tomato onion relish, pickles and pita.

The first area location opened in Corinth Quarter, 4105 W. 83rd St., Prairie Village, in December.
