After 13 years, Roscoe’s Barbeque has closed in western Wyandotte County.

In a Jan. 7 Facebook post, the owners said: “We would like to express gratitude to our customers and businesses. Our words do not come lightly, nor do goodbye’s. Roscoe has made the choice to Retire. These past 13 years have been life touching. The relationships we have developed we will always hold dear to us.”

They couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday morning, but a family member said the restaurant, at 9711 Kaw Drive in Edwardsville, closed in late 2022.

Readers left 124 comments by Thursday morning, including:

“We drove 45 minutes just to eat at roscoe’s! On several occasions and every time it was always amazing! You will be missed very much! Enjoy retirement and family! Now to find a new favorite BBQ place.”

“Selfishly I’m saying “Oh noooo!” Congrats to you and the family. Wish you all the best. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with Kansas City. Thanks for giving me the experience of eating your ribs for the first time. It’s something I’ll never forget.”

“Sorry to hear this, I constantly tell my friends you are one of the best BBQ in the area. A true hidden gem.”

In our 2022 poll, Roscoe’s made the cut for “Here are Kansas City’s 34 best barbecue joints, according to Kansas Citians.”
