JoyceKC’s Quick Bites: Lulu’s Asian Bistro, Steve’s Villa Capri opening this week

Restaurants scheduled to open this week:

▪ Lulu’s Asian Bistro plans a Tuesday opening at 2701 W. 47th St., Westwood.

A sister restaurant to Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop in the Crossroads, it will serve noodle dishes such as Drunken Noodles (chicken, beef, shrimp or tofu with Thai basil, bell peppers, green onions, bean sprouts, peanuts and rice noodles), and rice dishes like Massaman Curry (chicken, beef, shrimp, tofu, potatoes, onions and peanuts).

Entrees include Confit Salmon with duck fat cabbage, cashew, mustard and dashi; Dark Soy Chicken with caramelized miso, carrot and bulgur wheat; and Suckling Pork with apples, black quinoa, scallion and sweet potato.

Appetizers include Vietnamese spring rolls, dumplings, sauteed prawns and petite Bánh mì. It also will have specialty cocktails.

Owner Malisa Monyakula, who lives in Westwood, confirmed plans for the site nearly a year ago.

The area is turning into a new restaurant row with Taco Republic and Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que (formerly Oklahoma Joe’s) operating just to the west and more restaurants planned in the new Woodside Village development to the east.

▪ Overland Park’s Villa Capri Restaurant has relocated after 53 years at 81st Street and Metcalf Avenue.

Founder Tony Scudiero operated the restaurant until 2012. Then, after some health problems, he turned it over to his son Steve Scudiero.

Steve Scudiero had worked at Villa Capri off and on for 40 years. He closed the original location at 8126 Floyd St. and plans to reopen the restaurant later this week at 10412 Mastin St., Overland Park.

Villa Capri is known for its classic Italian dishes, including spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, lasagna, manicotti, chicken parmigiana, and pizza. It also will have a few new items and a new name — Steve’s Villa Capri Italian Cuisine.
