New Kansas City area Shake Shack will be second in the nation with a drive-thru
A Shake Shack with a drive-thru will open in Lee’s Summit next week — only the second drive-thru location in the country for the 364-unit chain.
The restaurant, in the Streets of West Pryor at 12051 N.W. Lowenstein Drive, plans an 11 a.m. opening Monday. It will have giveaways including Charlie Hustle T-shirts, Shack swag, holiday ornaments and more. For every sandwich sold that day it will give $1 to KC Pet Project.
Shake Shack is known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches and flat-top Vienna beef dogs (no hormones or antibiotics), spun-fresh frozen custard, crinkle cut fries, craft beer and wine, and more.
In a statement, Andrew McCaughan, chief development officer, said: “We are going to learn a great deal about our drive thru business and how best to reach our guests as we move ahead with this exciting new experience for Shake Shack. We look forward to learning from the Lee’s Summit community and building upon this new format to enhance the Shack experience.”
Shake Shack said the pandemic has forced it to become more easily accessible through delivery, enhanced digital preordering and drive-thrus.
The first drive-thru location opened on Dec. 6 in Minnesota, and drive-thrus will continue to be a focus with plans for a total of 10 by the end of 2022.
Shake Shack also plans 45 to 50 new openings in 2022, with more than half located in suburban markets.
The Lee’s Summit location will have a digital menu board, a two-lane ordering system and separate pickup window. Customers also can preorder for pickup via the Shack app and online at shakeshack.com. Employees also will take orders at multiple points in the drive-thru during busy times to speed service. It will have a separate kitchen for drive-thru customers.
Shake Shack also has locations on the Country Club Plaza and in Town Center Plaza in Leawood.
Locally owned Red Door Woodfired Grill plans to open the Streets of West Pryor in the late first quarter or early second quarter of 2022.
The Streets of West Pryor is a $190 million, mixed-use development spread over 70 acres at Interstate 470 and Pryor Road.
Other tenants include McKeever’s Market & Eatery, First Watch, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, Bibibop Asian Grill and Starbucks, along with residential components.
