It’s game on at Game Day restaurant in South KC
South Kansas City’s new Game Day Chicken Wings, Burgers & Fish specializes in breakfast and wings, so it offers both all day.
The menu includes combo breakfast meals like the 2nd Base for $8.99 (two eggs, country potatoes, two wings and a biscuit).
Other menu items include breakfast sandwiches, French toast, waffles, pancakes, warm cinnamon roll, biscuits and gravy, burgers, grilled chicken breast sandwich, fried chicken breast sandwich, chicken tenders, fish strips, and fish sandwiches, along with sides like green beans, sweet potatoes, and greens and cabbage. It also offers daily specials like a jalapeno burger.
“Party wings” are sold 10 for $12.50 to 100 for $125.
Kelvin Powell and his wife, Rischa Rayon, spent several weeks remodeling the former The Cook Shack Cafe at 8950 Wornall Road, even putting in a new patio.
They are now looking at a space just across the parking lot with plans to open a vintage clothing store.
New Captain D’s franchisee to remodel area restaurants, add new ones
A new Captain D’s franchisee has purchased the five area seafood restaurants.
Marlu Investment Group plans to remodel the restaurants in 2015. It also is looking at area sites for new Captain D’s and plans to open five more — one a year starting in 2015.
The Sacramento, Calif.-based company owns a number of restaurants under the Jack in the Box, Church’s Chicken, Arby’s, Little Caesars, and Sizzler brands, but none in the Kansas City area.
“We felt there was an opportunity in seafood, something that didn’t compete with what we already had and complements our other restaurants,” said Tony Lutfi, chief executive officer and president of Marlu. “We want to bring them up to today’s image so sales will improve, employees will be happier and customers will come in more often.”
Boulevard taps another market
Boulevard Brewing Co. continues to expand across the country.
The Kansas City-based brewer recently added northern New Jersey, Philadelphia and Florida to its distribution territory.
Now it plans to ship its beer to South Carolina before the end of the month. According to an announcement Monday, seven wholesalers recently signed agreements with the brewery to distribute the beer to different areas of the state.
With the expansion, Boulevard beers will now be sold in 29 states and the District of Columbia.
KC votes on its favorite BBQ
Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue is Kansas City’s favorite barbecue, with Joe’s Kansas City (formerly under the Oklahoma Joe’s Barbecue banner) a close second, according to a new survey by Remington Research Group.
The Kansas City-based public opinion firm typically does political polling, but with American Royal livestock events in October it decided to survey area residents about barbecue.
The survey found Kansas Citians narrowly prefer Fiorella’s Jack Stack (27 percent of those surveyed) over Joe’s Kansas City (24 percent). Gates Bar-B-Q garnered 17 percent of the votes, while Arthur Bryant’s was chosen by 10 percent of those surveyed.
Residents also were asked to choose their favorite barbecue entrée and side dish.
Beef brisket tallied 28 percent of the votes. Pork spareribs came in a close second at 27 percent, followed by burnt ends at 17 percent. Pulled pork’s supporters numbered 10 percent of those surveyed.
As for side dishes, 49 percent of the respondents picked baked beans, while 18 percent preferred french fries and 14 percent opted for coleslaw.
The survey of 4,438 area residents was conducted Sept. 27 through Sept. 29.
