The Kansas Department of Agriculture cited these restaurants for 7 or more priority health code violations. Most violations are corrected at the time of the inspection.
▪ Hy-Vee Food Store, 7620 State Line Road, Prairie Village, had 12 priority violations during a Sept. 24 routine inspection, including fried chicken, chopped boiled eggs, and smoked salmon held at improper temperatures (food discarded).
“All of the violations were corrected at the time of the inspection,” said Ryan Baker, manager of perishables.
▪ New China Town, 6854 Johnson Drive, Mission, had 8 priority violations during a Sept. 25 routine inspection, including fully cooked breaded chicken stored in cardboard boxes that had previously been used for storing raw chicken, and cut fresh green beans also were stored in a cardboard box that had previously been used to store raw chicken.
Restaurant officials did not return phone calls.
▪ Fast Fred’s Market, 1806 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., had 7 priority violations during a Sept. 29 routine inspection, including chili and hot dogs held at improper temperatures in the cooler.

▪ Spin Neapolitan Pizza, 8224 Mission Road, Prairie Village, had 7 priority violations during a Oct. 1 inspection following a complaint, including a violation when an employee removed pizza from the oven and touched the pizza with his bare hands.

▪ Sunny China, 4633 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, Kan., had 7 priority violations during a Sept. 25 routine inspection, including containers of raw shrimp stored over raw chicken in the cooler.

▪ Downtown Diner, 409 E. Santa Fe, Olathe, temporarily closed after an inspection on Sept. 25 when the inspector noted 30 to 40 roaches in the employee restroom and near a reach-in cooler.
The restaurant was reinspected on Sept. 26, had no priority violations and was allowed to reopen.
“It’s just an old building and we inherited quite a problem but I think we have it under control and the department has been more than helpful. Our pest control company solved the problem overnight,” said Rich Caines, owner.
