Chain known for specialty burgers and beers loses Johnson County spot after 15 years

North Overland Park’s Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews has closed after 15 years of operation.

PB&J Robin LLC, the local franchisee for the Colorado-based Red Robin chain, opened the location in 2006. It remodeled a building off Metcalf Avenue at 7111 W. 95th St., which had housed a Golden Ox and Houston’s.

Officials with PB&J said it closed Sunday and the lease expires at the end of the month. They declined to comment on reasons for not renewing the lease.

The 53 employees transferred to the two other Johnson Country Red Robins.

Red Robin is known for its specialty burgers, along with an array of salads, appetizers, entrees, desserts, beer, wine and cocktails.

Red Robin’s Smoke & Pepper burger is a half pound of Black Angus topped with black-pepper bacon and extra-sharp cheddar on a toasted ciabatta bun with house-made Smoke & Pepper ketchup.

PB&J Restaurants Inc. has nine other Red Robin restaurants under its umbrella, including area locations in Independence, Liberty, the Northland’s Zona Rosa, Olathe and south Overland Park, that will remain open. It plans to add another Wichita location in December.

PB&J also has other chain operations and its own concepts.
