Avenues Bistro Brookside is planning a mid-November opening for its new lounge and event space.

The eight-year-old restaurant, at 338 W. 63rd St., has spent weeks remodeling the former Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream & Topsy’s Popcorn space for L’Cove (pronounced ‘alcove’) Lounge at Avenues.

L’Cove is described as a cozy, contemporary space that will offer small plates and signature cocktails, as well as a wide selection of wines and craft beers. It also will serve as a private event space seating up to 50 people. A mid-November opening is planned.

“Avenues has always been more fine dining. The lounge will be much more casual, a place where you can meet someone for a drink and share a couple of small plates,” said Joe Birch, owner. “The front windows will open during nicer weather so it will operate like a patio.”

Avenues Bistro also will revamp its menu for the first time in four years. It will keep some favorites and offer new items for both the restaurant and lounge.

L’Cove also will offer “Burger Night” on Mondays — a choice of 15 specialty burgers and fries for $7.99.

L’Cove‘s Happy Hour specials will run from 4 to 6 p.m. with Reverse Happy Hour after 8:30 p.m. daily. It also will be open a little later than Avenues Bistro — until 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; midnight Friday and Saturday; and 10 p.m. Sunday.

Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream & Topsy's Popcorn is relocating to 101 W. 63rd St. It plans to open in early-to-mid November.

Rainbow Blvd.’s McDonald’s

The McDonald’s at 4215 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kan., has been demolished. The chain will put up a new restaurant featuring one of its latest designs with a double drive-through. It is scheduled to open in mid-December.

New West Bottoms venue

Lori Holmes, owner of an Olathe-based catering company called Motomama’s Munchies, now has a deli by the same name in the West Bottoms. It will operate in a space on the second floor of the Bottoms Up Antique Mall, at 1300 W. 13th St., on First Friday Warehouse Weekends.

The menu will change monthly. This month it will offer such items as biscuits and gravy, deli wraps, entree salads, sopapilla cheesecake bars and brownies.
