Readers want to know: What’s going on with the old Macaroni Grill in Johnson County?

Readers traveling along Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park are wondering about a restaurant building that has stood empty for years and was recently fenced off.

Frank Newman of Frank Newman Commercial Real Estate, broker for the site, said the former Romano’s Macaroni Grill at 9292 Metcalf Ave. is being torn down.

The building was home to Romano’s for more than 25 years. But it has been empty since Romano’s closed in May 2017.

Newman, who is fielding inquiries for the corner site in the Regency Park Shopping Center, said it could work for a bank, medical office or restaurant with drive-thru.

There are no more Romano’s Macaroni Grill locations in the Kansas City area.
