Restaurant inspections for Oct. 2

The Kansas City Health Department cited these operations for 7 or more critical health code violations. Most violations are corrected at the time of the inspection.

▪ J’s Fish & Chicken Market, 2831 Prospect Ave., had 13 critical violations during a Sept. 15 routine inspection, including chicken wings and raw chicken thighs held at improper temperatures in tubs on a shallow layer of ice and water (chicken discarded).

It had no critical violations during a Sept. 23 follow-up inspection.

“We took care of the problem and the inspector came back to do another inspection and we passed,” said Shahid Suddle, owner.

▪ 54th Street Grill & Bar, 9251 N.E. Barry Road, had 8 critical violations during a Sept. 8 routine inspection, including Gringo Dip held at improper temperatures (dip discarded).

“The cooling procedures were reviewed by the general manager and kitchen manager to make sure they were being followed correctly. All other violations have been corrected,” said Doug Bretz, vice president of Kansas City operations.

The restaurant had 1 critical violation during a Sept. 18 follow-up inspection and no critical violations during a Sept. 26 follow-up inspection.

▪ Abuelo’s Mexican Food, 8541 N.W. Prairie View Road, had 7 critical violations during a Sept. 10 routine inspection, including beef, chicken, and diced tomatoes held at improper temperatures (food discarded). It had no critical violations during a Sept. 19 follow-up inspection.

“Everything has been corrected,” said Shane Willmann, general manager.

▪ Golden Corral, 8800 N.W. Skyview Road, had 7 critical violations during a Sept. 11 routine inspection, including scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes, and collard greens held at improper temperatures (food discarded).

“It was discarded and when we were reinspected everything was correct,” said Tim Huff, general manager.

It had 2 critical violations during a Sept. 17 follow-up inspection and no critical violations during a Sept. 24 follow-up inspection.

▪ Sushi Haru, 13133 State Line Road, had 7 critical violations during a Sept. 15 routine inspection, including raw crab, raw shrimp and mayonnaise-based sauce were held at improper temperatures.

Restaurant officials did not return phone calls.

▪ Cancun Fiesta Fresh, 625 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., had 11 priority violations during a Sept. 23 routine inspection, including 20 fresh mouse droppings in a storage room. No pest control invoice was provided by the person in charge.

Restaurant officials declined to comment.

▪ Arenosas Mexican Food, 1203 Kansas Ave., Kansas City, Kan., had 8 priority violations during a Sept. 17 routine inspection, including live roaches on glue traps and around glue traps on floor in front of the stove and in front of the food prep area. The restaurant was temporarily closed because of the imminent health hazard.

It had no priority violations during a Sept. 19 follow-up inspection and allowed to reopen.

A manager said a pest control company will now come in twice a month.

▪ Sawasdee Thai Cuisine, 11838 Quivira Road, Overland Park, had 7 priority violations during a Sept. 22 routine inspection, including a pan of raw chicken stored inside and on top of another pan of raw fish (raw fish separated from raw chicken).

“We corrected all the violations,” said Salisa Chatani, owner.
