South Plaza sweet shop closing after a decade, blames ‘uncertainty’ from the pandemic
The Glace Artisan Ice Cream shop, just south of the Country Club Plaza, will close permanently at 9 p.m. Sunday.
Owner Christopher Elbow said his lease is up for renewal and with the pandemic he couldn’t afford a rent increase.
“It was not the time to sign a long-term lease during this time with this uncertainty,” he said Friday.
He later issued a statement, saying, “Our landlord (VanTrust) has been very accommodating throughout this crisis.”
Rich Muller, with VanTrust Real Estate, declined to comment.
Elbow opened the shop, at 4960 Main St., in June 2010.
Glace makes its ice cream from Midwest milk and all natural ingredients. Flavors include salted pretzel, Madagascar vanilla, lavender honey, carrot cake, lemon basil and cinnamon espresso. It also sells Christopher Elbow chocolates.
Elbow now plans to concentrate on his Fairway Creamery at 5938 Mission Road in Fairway. It sells house-made ice cream and donuts. He also has Christopher Elbow Chocolates in the Crossroads.
