James Beard finalist expanding burger and malt concept in KC’s Crossroads food hall

Ravenous, the fast casual concept by James Beard Award nominee Michael Corvino and his wife, Christina, is moving to the Parlor food hall.

It plans to open Friday with Corvino’s celebrated cheeseburger — diner-style with cheeseburger smash patties seared on a griddle, topped with sour pickles, aioli made with grated garlic and lemon, charred onions and a slice of Muenster cheese on a house-made bun. It will be $7 for the single, $9 for the double.

The menu also will feature another burger, the Big Mike, topped with American cheese and iceberg lettuce, along with the Mushroom Sandwich with roasted mushroom and crispy Muenster cheese, tater tots with cheese sauce or spicy Bolognese, broccoli salad with whipped tofu, malts and fried hand pies.

It had been operating for lunch only out of Corvino Supper Club & Tasting Room over the winter with plans to open an outdoor kiosk in an urban park setting by the restaurant in nicer weather.

During the COVID-19 shutdown the Corvinos took online orders for Ravenous and part of the Supper Club menu for lunch and dinner carry-out.

Once they reopened they realized Ravenous had outgrown the kiosk space. They considered taking a stand-alone restaurant space but hesitated because of the current economy.

Now they are taking the former Karbon space on the second floor of the food hall at 1707 Locust St.
