Andy’s Frozen Custard opens in Westport

Andy’s Frozen Custard has entered the market with a new corporate-owned location with drive-thru at 1200 Westport Road.

The Springfield, Mo.-based company also plans a location at 10641 State Line Road, just south of QuikTrip, and in a former Sheridan’s Lattes & Frozen Custard building at 598 N.E. Missouri 291 in Lee’s Summit. Both the south Kansas City and Lee’s Summit locations are expected to start construction by late July and open in December 2015 or January 2016.

Andy’s offers vanilla and chocolate flavors but also can create a variety of combinations using toppings — chocolate chip cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, Bordeaux cherry chip, hot fudge brownie, and butter pecan.

The James Brownie Funky Jackhammer concrete is a concoction of vanilla frozen custard blended with peanut butter and brownies, then filled with hot fudge.

It also has old-fashioned freezes, old-fashioned sodas, floats, Zarlengo’s Italian Ice, sundaes, frozen custard bars, and monthly specials like the current blackberry concrete or strawberry shortcake sundae. Expect a candy cane flavored concrete in December.

Former Raytown residents founded the company nearly 30 years ago with a mission to use only the freshest ingredients. John and Carol Kuntz opened the first Andy’s in Osage Beach, Mo., naming it after their son Andy, who is now president and chief executive officer.

The company currently has 24 locations in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Illinois. It also is expanding to other states, including Florida and Tennessee. A 25th location is scheduled to open in Pflugerville, Texas, later this week.

It also is looking at locations in Blue Springs and Shawnee.
