Longtime Waldo fast food restaurant shuts down after more than 35 years at location

Burger King has operated in Waldo for more than 35 years.

But now a sign on the door of the fast food restaurant, at 340 W. 72nd St., says, “This restaurant is closed.”

Burger King officials couldn’t be reached for comment. A customer service representative said the restaurant was owned by a franchisee so she could not confirm if the closing was permanent.

The Waldo location opened in June 1985, according to Kansas City Star archives. It is north of QuikTrip on Wornall Road.

The Waldo Burger King had one critical violation during a July 6 inspection, and no critical violations during a July 14 inspection.

But the location has been the subject of complaints on social media sites, including recent posts on NextDoor: “Was terrible, I tried to look past all its flaws, and gave up and just stopped going.”

Jackson County lists the building as being owned by Burger King in Miami.
