JoCo entertainment complex with four venues will not reopen after stay-in-place order
South Johnson County entertainment district One Block South will not reopen.
The Rosana Square complex, at 7300 W. 119th St. in Overland Park, has been temporarily closed during the shelter-in-place order due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.
But One Block South founder Shawn McClenny said even if the venues reopened he expected them to do just 25 to 50 percent of what they took in before the pandemic as social distancing practices could still be followed for possibly months.
“There’s no way to make my overhead when you have those expenses,” McClenny said. “I’m going to take some time off and recharge. My wife and I are talking about getting an RV and going to the Grand Canyon.”
He originally took over Raoul’s Velvet Room in Rosana Square in 1999 and kept expanding until he created One Block South. It most recently had four concepts — Fuel American Made Bar & Grill, country music venue Kanza Hall, upscale Red 8 Billiards and craft beer bar Local Tap (in the former Raoul’s space). The concepts had about 60 employees.
Tony Privitera of Privitera Realty Holdings LLC, owners of the shopping center at 119th and Metcalf Avenue, said One Block South had about 25,000 square feet.
