Sporting KC’s new concessions include popular local favorites in barbecue and burgers
As Sporting Kansas City gears up to celebrate its 25th season as a founding member of Major League Soccer, it is refreshing its concession offerings with items from popular locally owned companies and its own culinary team.
“We want to make sure we are catering to the masses but also make sure we are providing unique offerings at each stand,” said Jake Reid, president and CEO of Sporting Kansas City. “We think we have something for everyone.”
Six new locally owned concepts will debut at the season opener against the Houston Dynamo at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. They are:
▪ American Royal Barbecue (Section 127): A partnership with the American Royal Association, it will serve classic KC barbecue favorites such as pulled pork, brisket and burnt end sandwiches, along with burnt end nachos with molasses baked beans, cheese and onion strings.
▪ BRGR Kitchen + Bar (Section 129): The menu will include its signature burgers, fries and tots, a premium chicken sandwich and a Beyond Burger, the first plant-based protein offered in the stadium.
▪ J. Rieger & Co.: The East Bottoms distillery will serve its signature products during matches at Children’s Mercy Park and at private events in the suite levels and Wise Power Shield Club. Sporting and J. Rieger & Co. also have a special collectible bottle of Rieger’s Kansas City Whiskey.
▪ Parisi Coffee: Its portable kiosk will be on the stadium concourse and in premium spaces throughout the venue. It will serve special coffee blends and a special-edition shandy — a blend of coffee, lemonade and vanilla.
▪ Port Fonda: Located in the newly renovated Wise Power Shield Club, it will have a rotating menu that will include Port Fonda favorites like the “chimichanga of the match” (a different one each game), esquite asado and the Roselle Margarita.
▪ Taco Republic (South Stand Concourse): The food truck will offer “street-style” tacos, chips, salsa, guacamole, margaritas and more.
Other new concession stands operated by Sporting Kansas City’s culinary team will sell large brats, large pretzels, fried chicken sandwiches, popcorn chicken, chicken and falafel curry bowls, wraps, subs, empanadas and more.
Sporting Kansas City also will introduce its “Sporting Value Menu” at the home opener at Children’s Mercy Park — $5 hot dogs, nachos and pretzels, and $4 popcorn at every match. The menu will be available in the Budweiser Brew House and all concession stands but The Market.
