Brookside Poultry Co.’s move is making way for new sushi and teriyaki restaurant

Brookside Poultry Co. got its start in this little spot in East Brookside a couple of years ago.

It has been so successful that it will soon move down the street to a larger spot and add a second restaurant, Brookside Beef Co.

Now another start-up restaurant is set to take Brookside Poultry’s current spot, hoping for similar success.

Friends Brady Battmer, Tyler Burns and Salvador Cerritos plan to open Brookside Sushi at 408 E. 63rd St. in mid-to-late April.

Cerritos has been in the sushi business for nearly 30 years, starting at the former Kabuki in Crown Center in 1991, then Bo Lings Chinese Restaurant. He most recently was a partner in Kabuki in Brookside.

“My partner passed away in December. But I was already planning to open the other place,” he said. “I’m leaving Kabuki but the other partner will take care of Kabuki.”

Cerritos is currently finalizing the menu for Brookside Sushi, but it will include sushi and teriyaki dishes.

The Brookside Sushi partners will take possession of the space after Brookside Poultry moves out in mid-to-late March, and they plan to change the decor.

Sayachi Sushi Restaurant joined the Brookside mix in mid-2019.
