Longtime Brookside retailer relocating and expanding: ‘We listened to our customers’
After nearly two decades in Brookside, Brookside Barkery & Bath is leaving the shopping district.
But it won’t go far.
The locally-owned, all-natural pet products store, currently at 118 W. 63rd St., will close in late March and reopen in the former Plate restaurant space at 6201 Oak St. The new location is larger with off-street parking.
“We listened to our customers,” said Larry Stout, owner with his wife, Delena.
Brookside Barkery & Bath, which opened in mid-2003, also has a self-service dog wash and offers grooming services. There is another location in Lee’s Summit.
Plate restaurant formerly had the corner space at 6201 Brookside but relocated after a fire in 2017.
Earlier this year, Greg Johnson, founder of Minsky’s Pizza Cafe & Bar, Eggtc. and Osteria Il Centro restaurants, and Brent Wittrock, general manager of Osteria, purchased the building where the Barkery is moving. It also has six other storefronts.
